Home of guitarist and songster Mance Lipscomb, Navasota has presented a summer blues festival for more than two decades. My mixed media painting of BB King felt right at home here. Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin and a mixed bag of other figurative paintings completed the show, which will be on display until early 2019.

One of my favorite places to show is in hotel lobbies – where I feel I’m bringing Texas-born art to visitors who might hail from anywhere in the world. I and several other artists have an ongoing display here that rotates in new art every few months.

My artist friend, Charles Wallis, arranged the exhibition, and I was surprised to find such an inviting lobby. The colors and modern decor were perfect for the pieces I'd brought. When the show was hung, I stepped back and told my friend, "This looks as if my art was designed for this contemporary setting."
